Pedro Astacio to Nationals?

Wednesday's Washington Times is reporting that the Nationals have offered a 1-year, minor-league contract to pitcher Pedro Astacio. Astacio split time with Texas and San Diego last season, and after a 2-8 start with the Rangers he rebounded to finish the year 4-2 as a Padre with a 3.17 ERA. I can see where he might have an oustide shot at becoming a spot starter or even a No. 5 guy with Washington. Definitely worth the gamble.

Ugh, I've been down on Astacio since his "time" with the Mets all those years ago. He was just always hurt.

Still, teams will sign anyone and give them a shot. He is a vet with experience though.

Re: Pedro Astacio to Nationals?

Well, he agreed to terms with Washington today. However, to sign, he first has to pass an MRI on his right shoulder and right elbow Wednesday. If he's healthy, he will compete for a spot on the rotation. After losing Lawrence for most if not all of the season, its not like they have a lot of options.
