Believe it or not, Huskies was not the original name for the University of Washington football team. According to the school's official website, the original moniker for the athletics department was the Sun Dodgers. In 1921, however, it was decided that the name was not really appropriate, and the school decided to find a new name. They used Vikings temporarily before settling on Huskies because of Seattle's proximity to Alaska. Interesting stuff!
