Alexander Ovechkin of the Capitals has set a new single-season record for most goals by a left wing.
He scored #64 and #65 in yesterday's 4-1 win over Tampa Bay, breaking the old record of former L.A. Kings LW Luc Robitaille.

This guy is something else, but the Caps don't make the playoffs (which it looks like they will make it), he shouldn't win MVP.

I believe when Luc set his record it was a more wide open game and I think Gretzky was his center...so the record is impressive.

Are you kidding? With the way he's playing, they could finish dead last and he'd still deserve the MVP.

Lefty, they hold baseball players out of the MVP spot because they weren't on one of 8 playoff teams out of 30. If you can't lead a team to the playoff when over half the league gets in you don't deserve MVP, but that shouldn't be a problem because it looks they will get in.

I second it...he is the whole team...and that to me is an MVP...a player you would be nothing without.

Yeah I think all the voting is done before the playoffs so it's just whether he's great at what he does, doesn't involve whether he brought the team to the playoffs. I'm okay with that.

Ovechkin has shown that he can prop up a lowly team and a mediocre Kolzig. MVP in my opinion without a doubt
