WASHINGTON (AP) - Ryan Smyth is already feeling comfortable in his new surroundings and the New York Islanders' power play is benefiting from his presence.
Smyth scored his first goal with New York, Miroslav Satan scored twice and the Islanders defeated the Washington Capitals 6-2 on Saturday night.
"One of my strengths is getting the privilege to play on the power play and to get the ice time I get," said Smith, who scored his 32nd goal - the Islanders' last and his first since coming from Edmonton at the trade deadline earlier this week - with 2:54 remaining in the game. "You want to contribute."
