WASHINGTON (AP) -- There was only one thing left for Alex Oveckhin to do to firmly stake his claim as the NHL's top rookie. He needed to beat Sidney Crosby head-to-head.
In the fourth and final meeting between the NHL's next-generation stars, Ovechkin finally got the better of his rival. The 20-year-old Russian scored his 42nd goal and added two assists Wednesday night in the Capitals 6-3 victory over the Penguins.

So, who will be Rookie of the Year this year? Crosby or Oveckhin?

You gotta be difficult don't you blueandwhite girl ...sure why not...but are we talking about Marc Staal the 1st rounder of the Ranger whose yet to play this year...OR...Eric Staal that totally underacheiving Hurricane 2nd over all in 2003, who has been totally pitiful this year with only 39 goals and 82 points?...Come on now be more specific if you are going to toss a name in the rink... ...it might not be soooo obvious to some of us now ...so the new question (after blueandwhite girl verifies which Staal) is, "Crosby, Oveckhin, or Staal?"...there you go...happy now?

I'm not real good with stats - I just know that I hear alot of great stuff about ERIC Staal, and look at the Hurricanes - plus, we should have played him on Team Canada in turin. Instead, he sat on the sidelines and watched us waste away.

Just messing with you blueandwhite girl...its my morning ritual...Eric is great, but he played 81 games before last year...so I don't think he qualifies for Rookie of the Year...

As a Pens fan, Gotham, I've got to say... Oveckhin.

Ha ha, bet you didn't see that one coming! Don't get me wrong. I think Sir Sidney is going to be a great player in this league for a lot of years, and hopefully will help to revitalize the Pittsburgh franchise. But Oveckhin is CLEARLY the best rookie this season.

So what have these two been up to since we last discussed which would be Rookie of the Year?

ALEXANDER OVECHKIN
2nd Rookie in NHL history to score 50 goals and 100 points
4th highest point total ever by an NHL rookie (tied at 102 with Joe Juneau)

SIDNEY CROSBY
3 points shy of becoming youngest NHL player ever to score 100
Could also become just the 7th rookie to pass the century mark in points

Still gotta give the edge to Ovechkin, but man, what a battle these two are having!

A better supporting cast would have helped young Sid a bit...still in the hockey card world...Sid is out selling Alexander...
