BLACKSBURG -- Virginia Tech junior cornerback Victor "Macho" Harris, a Highland Springs High graduate, will leave school early to enter the NFL draft, according to a press release yesterday from Tech's athletic department.
Earlier yesterday, Tech defensive backs coach Torrian Gray said he expected Harris to announce he was turning pro. The NFL's committee that advises underclassmen on where they might be selected projected Harris as a third-round pick, Gray said last week. Gray said then that he advised Harris to return to Tech next year to boost his NFL stock.
Harris was a first-team all-ACC selection this season and had five interceptions, 11 pass break-ups and 36 tackles. He was a two-year starter at the field-corner position and finishes his Tech career with nine interceptions and 82 tackles.
