| If there was a connection between the Washington Redskins and Virginia Tech, Jeron Gouveia didn't know about it. Gouveia, son of former Redskins linebacker Kurt Gouveia, was one of two football prospects to make oral commitments to the Hokies on Wednesday. Gouveia, rated the No. 7 junior in Virginia last year by The Roanoke Times, joins 6-foot-3, 231-pound Stafford High School linebacker Jake Johnson in the Hokies' 2008 recruiting class. Johnson also had an offer from Maryland and had drawn the attention of Virginia, West Virginia and Connecticut. According to rivals.com, he had 125 tackles as a junior, including 27 for loss. Stanford had preceded Tech in making an offer to Gouveia, named first-team All-Group AAA and second-team All-Metro after his junior year at Stone Bridge High School. "I've always been a Tech fan and I think they knew that," said Gouveia, whose sister, Ariel, will enroll at Tech this fall as a freshman. "I heard about the offer [Tuesday] at school. They contacted my coach at 4 p.m., then I talked to my parents and called back with my verbal." Hokies sign another recruit with Redskins ties - Roanoke.com |

| Re: Kurt Gouveia's son to play at Virginia Tech Wow, does this make me feel old. I remember watching Kurt play like it was just yesterday. Wonder if his son's the same kind of tenacious defensive player that he was? Heck, it doesn't even say for sure that Jeron is a linebacker, but I'm betting he is. Think he'll be any good?

| Re: Kurt Gouveia's son to play at Virginia Tech Kurt Gouveia is a personal favorite of mine. Raised on the Waianae Coast, he's from a tough part of the Islands, a place where I have a lot of family and not too far from where I'm at currently. It's told that he felt slighted by the UH Warriors that either didn't recruit him heavily, or at all. As you're probably aware, he ended up at BYU, then the Warriors bitter rival. He personally won a game for BYU at UH. The Warriors were about to punch in a go-ahead score from inches out with very little time left on the clock. From his MLB position, Kurt perfectly timed the snap and, with a running start, dove over the center right into our QB, Raphael Cherry stopping him short of the goal line. And his play in the Redskins SB victory against the Bills has pretty much gone unnoticed. He had an awesome game in that SB, quickly shutting the door on the Bills first drive coming out of the locker room at half-time, and pretty much sealing-the-deal with his interception that he brought all the way back into the redzone - remember? Mahalo for the story! Last edited by Haynr8dr : 06-02-2007 at 02:14 PM. Reason: oops |

I would only add the Kurt Gouveia accomplished a major trifecta: he played on the Hawaii High-School State Champion Waianae Seariders, the NCAA National Champ BYU Cougars, and the NFL Super Bowl Champion Redskins. FYI |

| That is fantastic. He was a good family friend of ours. I'm happy to hear that his son is just as athletic as his father. He's a good guy and was a great in the sport. I'm sure his son will do just as well |
