| Fifth-year seniors provide Vandy depth As redshirt freshman cornerbacks, Josh Allen and Jared Fagan were key contributors on Vanderbilt's 2005 team — combining for eight starts, 52 tackles and one historic interception. Three years later, the players illustrate the strides the Commodores have made under Bobby Johnson. Projected as starters entering their sophomore season, both were edged out by younger teammates as, first D.J. Moore, then Myron Lewis, moved ahead of them. Now, Moore and Lewis help comprise what's viewed as one of the Southeastern Conference's better defensive backfields while Allen and Fagan wait for their opportunities to offer support. "Those guys are still good players," Johnson said of the two fifth-year seniors, who have teamed for 45 tackles and one interception over the last two seasons. "We just recruited two pretty outstanding guys that moved in front of them. "We always say in recruiting, our goal is to get better players than we have right now. That's our goal every year, to get better players." Story
