Re: The Torch

so far, I have not received word from anyone there. I'm sure it's there 'cause it was mentioned in an email I was copied on .. but don't know if it's been delivered to it's final caretaker.

yes, but not since sending my snailmail address last week. on my todo list is make contact with the caretaker's caretakers for status. however, since the caretaker is "on vacation", the park rangers are not inclined to give out info without prior authorization and I don't know if I've been authorized or not (haven't heard anything one way or the other.) I'm guessing they still have the old fashioned "once a week" pickup for snailmail...

but once I have anything, I'll spread the word!!!

Re: The Torch

The Torch has arrived at its final resting place!

Each of The Torch carriers have an email confirming it's arrival.

email from wayne:
You sly fox,

I was so surprised and was practically in tears when I got the
"Torch". Thank you and all of those that signed it. I got it on Easter Sunday
and it meant so much to me. Some of the staff here thought something
was wrong because I was in tears and just a mumbling idiot. Please
foreward my thanks to all involved. I will send a picture when I can. Back
surgery is only in 21 days and I cant wait. I say prayers to all for the
gift of such a wonderfull book. I will send out indiviual thank yous
to all that signed it. Most all of the folks in Pathfinders signed it
too. (My Sunday school class) Put me down for Kyle Bush and Gordon on the
next race. Gotta go.

I thank God for you and all at GTG.

Wayne

Re: The Torch

Thank you Ducky for encouraging and allowing us to become a part of Wayne's renewal. All to often we let the other guy do it. Great to be that other guy !!

That's a big failing of mine. I am so grateful to have been part of this group and for being allowed to help make a difference in someone else's life.
In spite of all he is going through and the hard road he is traveling, Wayne seems to have a terrific attitude and outlook. He seems to be a really terrific guy.
I dont remember if anyone ever told us or not, but could you explain the procedure for his back surgery a little RD? Layman's terms please.

It will definitely be layman's terms...

Wayne has an implant in his back that electrically "controls" pain impulses from his legs to his brain. He's had 3 previous operations which "controlled" pain he was having. This one coming up hopes to eliminate almost all pain from his legs. What they will do is attach wires from his implant to the nerves. This pain is from an (auto) accident he was in where, among other things, is legs were injured.

Right now he's in a wheelchair because someone stole his charger for his implant and the battery had died. When they operate this time they will probably replace the battery and give him a new charger.
