| Punter provides Vandy with kick-start in win Brett Upson was the official recipient of the Southeastern Conference's special teams player of the week honor following Vanderbilt's win over South Carolina last weekend. The Commodores sophomore punter is fully aware, though, that his success isn't based completely on his individual effort. Against the Gamecocks, Upson averaged 40.1 yards on eight attempts — half of which were downed by Vanderbilt inside the South Carolina 10-yard line. "They were pinned down for the whole first half, it seemed like," Commodores Coach Bobby Johnson said. "It's tough to operate when you're back close to your own end zone. I think our defense was able to take advantage of that." Full Story
