| Defense makes statement with turnovers, sacks COLUMBIA, S.C. — Following their loss last week against Georgia, Vanderbilt got a little defensive. Or maybe a lot defensive. The Commodores' 17-6 win Saturday at sixth-ranked South Carolina hinged in large part on the play of their defensive unit, which caused four turnovers and recorded seven sacks while keeping the Gamecocks out of the end zone for the first time since they were shut out 18-0 at Georgia in September 2006. "That's the name of the game for the defense — create turnovers, get off the field, put the offense back on the field and let them score points," senior linebacker Marcus Buggs said. "We all got together and determined that last week was on us. The offense put up 17 points; that should be enough. We couldn't finish out the game like we were supposed to. We regrouped, had a good week of practice, came out and executed and did what we needed to do to win." Full Story
