Vandy gets first crack at new 'Bama coach

For those who say Nick Saban isn't universally despised, his detractors might respond, "Give him time."

By actions or inactions, each of Saban's last three coaching moves have perturbed folks left in his wake: when he left Michigan State before the 2000 Florida Citrus Bowl to go to LSU; when he left the Tigers after 2004 to jump to the NFL's Miami Dolphins; and, most recently, when he — after saying he wouldn't depart — left the Dolphins to re-enter the collegiate ranks at Alabama.

Saban's next step brings him to Nashville on Saturday, when his Crimson Tide faces the Commodores in an 11:30 a.m. game at Vanderbilt Stadium. This is where he will reintroduce himself to Southeastern Conference action.

With Saban in town, Vanderbilt fans will be treated to college football's highest-paid coach. The Crimson Tide is paying Saban $32 million over eight years, although, as Saban has pointed out, that's actually a pay cut from the $4.5 million the Dolphins were paying him.

Saban stirs the pot with his SEC return
