Vanderbilt geared up for today's afternoon scrimmage with a pair of workouts on Friday, and Coach Bobby Johnson said the Commodores' execution would be the key — on both sides of the ball.

"All we want to do is make sure we can get plays called, get defenses called, and do what we're supposed to do, as hard as we're supposed to do it," Johnson said. "If we can do that, we'll get better."

The defensive unit will more than likely be without tackle Theo Horrocks, end Curtis Gatewood and safety Reshard Langford. Horrocks and Gatewood are nursing foot injuries, and Langford has a thigh injury.

"Those guys have proven they can play," Johnson said. "I don't think it'd be smart to rush them back to play in a preseason scrimmage."
