Bethel's star joins Vanderbilt for 2008 season

Depth is a word often used in the discussion of Vanderbilt football — and typically, not in a good way.
One place that the Commodores are starting to enjoy some depth, though, is in the defensive secondary.

Behind the established starting quartet of safeties Reshard Langford and Ryan Hamilton and cornerbacks D.J. Moore and Myron Lewis, the coaching staff is seeing some solid talent emerge as preseason camp continues. The result should be a minimal drop-off when the backups are on the field, which would be a departure from many previous seasons.
"That was a big concern of ours to begin with," secondary coach Jamie Bryant said. "We needed to develop depth."

Three of the four slated starters saw significant time last fall. Lewis spent some time as a safety last season before moving to cornerback; at 6 feet, 2 inches, he's potentially the tallest starting corner in the Southeastern Conference.

Bethel's star joins Vanderbilt Baseball for 2008 season

Drew Hayes, a 2006 all-state selection in both football and baseball, will join the Vanderbilt baseball program this year as a transfer from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn.

Drafted in the 29th round of the 2006 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks and recruited by the Commodores, Hayes opted to instead play for his father, Glen, at Bethel. As a freshman, the 6-1, 200-pounder earned second-team all-TranSouth Athletic Conference honors as both a hitter and a pitcher.
