Vandy Bowl Bound?

25 years have passed since the Vanderbilt Commodores have been to their last bowl, but it sounds like coach Bobby Johnson thinks this is their year.

"We have 17 or 18 starters returning," Johnson recently told Rivals.com. "We've won some pretty big games in the last couple years. I think that in itself is probably more important than talent level or whatever. I feel like our guys feel like they can compete in this league... When you get that working for you you're going to have a chance." So, can they do it?

In most conference Vandy is 6 or 7 win team but in the SEC they are a 4 or 5 win team

As long as Vandy can keep their starters healthy I can see them winning 6-7 games.

Vandy -- Surprise team of 2007!

Here's something you haven't heard for a while -- maybe ever: Vandy may be heading to a bowl game.

The Vanderbilt Commodores will be the surprise team in the SEC this year. They return 18 starters from last year's team (most in the SEC). They have a great QB - Receiver combo in Chris Nickson and Earl Bennett. They have been getting better and better under Bobby Johnson, coming close in so many games. They finally broke through last year, winning at Athens. They will win at least 3 SEC games this season.

The SEC East will be super competitive with any of the six teams being able to beat any of the others on any given Saturday.

But, Vandy will be the talk since they've been so bad for so long. I'm looking for a winning season and their first bowl game in a quarter century.

Check out SEC Football is the Best! for more SEC football predictions.
