ESPN - Canucks forward Linden reportedly to retire after 18 seasons - NHL

After 18 seasons, Trevor Linden appears ready to hang up his skates.

TSN of Canada is reporting that the longtime Canucks center will announce his retirement at a Wednesday news conference in Vancouver.

A two-time All-Star, Linden began his career with Vancouver as an 18-year-old in 1988. He scored 32 goals for the 1993-94 Canucks team that lost to the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup finals.

In 1998, the fan favorite was traded to the New York Islanders for Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan McCabe and a third-round pick. Stints with the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals followed before Linden returned to the Canucks for the 2002-03 season.

Linden would finish his career with 375 goals and 492 assists. He also distinguished himself by being the president of the National Hockey League Players' Association leading up to the 2004-05 work stoppage.

Well he came full circle and ended his career where it began and where he played some of his best hockey...1997-2002 he wandered around the league...but he came home to retire...and that's cool.

I was really kind of stunned to find out he was still playing, to be honest with you. I remember him fondly from the 1993 (or was it 1994?) NHL video games on the Sega Genesis. Hard to believe that, all these years later, he's just now hanging them up. But then, I guess you've got guys like Chelios still out there lacing up the skates, so... these guys have some serious longevity, some of them.

HAHA...man! That is where I remember him from too!...I played a whole 80 game schedule with the Canucks that year...Linden and Bure and Ronning...loved that game!...I still have my stats for that Sega season here some where!...Small World!

Yep, I agree. Those Genesis ones were, IMO, the last great hockey games.
