"Can Canucks Afford to Re-Sign Salo?" - That's the question asked in an Oct. 23 article by Jason Botchford of The Province.

"Early in this season, Salo has established himself as the Canucks' best overall defenceman," Botchford writes. "With seven points in eight games, a silky smooth transition game and top marks as the power play's pivot, he looks like a player who has taken his game to the next level. He may even draw consideration as the team's MVP."

"But he is about to become an unrestricted free agent and he's a player -- at $1.5 million US this year -- who is currently way underpaid. He is now considering the possibility his next contract could be the final contract of his career. That could mean too much payroll for the Canucks to handle. And that could be devastating."
