Reggie Bush Scandal

As cited in a post in the Saints forum, a Yahoo! Sports investigation shows Bush accepted money while in school. USC's accomplishments, along with his own, could be under fire and worse.

How does this make USC fans feel?

Like exposing all other teams on the take perhaps?...like USC is the lone vilotator...find me a clean program...and I show you a school that has missed a Bowl bid for 5 straight seasons...

Gotham is 100% correct. This is a non-story.

I find it hard to call a possible Heisman and National Championship forfeit a non-story. Yahoo! claims the kid got over $100k while he was in school, and people can use the "well, its not like they're the only dirty program" argument all they want. But Bush and USC got caught, and until the others get caught, THAT's a non-issue.

Deal with the facts on the table. Assuming Bush did in fact violate NCAA rules, USC played him when he should've been ineligible, and therefore, they likely lose a national title and likely get placed on probation. That probably kills their recruiting as well. This is a HUGE story because of the possible impact it will have on the future of the Trojans football program.

I guess your're right Lefty. I was looking at it from a Bush standpoint. It doesn't affect him at all.

You are missing the big picture big guy...Bush or USC are not the story...the real story is the hypocrasy that is College Programs ...if Bush is a story its as a high profile scape goat...kinda like MLB banning say Jose Canseco or Palmero for steriod use without addressing the real issue...Scapegoats (although the $100K is a bit much) are never the story...not really...and journalist worth his salt would dig past that into the real story.

Re: Reggie Bush Scandal

Reggie Bush's actions will likely hurt the program in the longterm, as Lefty said. If they get their National Title taken back and possibly even bans from future bowls or whatever, do you think top recruits will choose them over other top schools?

There's no question NCAA sports are corrupt but some schools try to be clean.

Re: Reggie Bush Scandal

See, to me its too different issues. On one hand, yes the rules stinks and they're in desperate need of an overhaul. But you know what? They're still the rules. Reggie Bush knows the rules, and even if he doesn't agree with them, he is bound to abide by them. He didn't and it could wind up costing his alma mater big time. Trying to switch the focus to the NCAA's policies sounds gives this kid a free pass for knowingly violating a rule that, regardless of what anyone thinks, thousands of student athletes adhere to year in and year out. I can't agree with that.

Yep...seperate issues...until you make him a scape goat for all the ills of college football...you want to go after him...no problem...but all this headline stuff...that reeks of making Bush a scapegoat...you can conduct a quiet investigation with all the headlines...and get to the same point.

They bust who they want to bust.

I always though I was a picture guy: -- I guess my point was we've heard this thing before. Nothing shocked me about this story. And when the NCAA gives USC a slap on the wrist, that won't shock me either. Because that's what always happens in college sports. If the NCAA were going to change the system or really clamp down, I would say this is big news. But they won't. So when we hear that the next big college player was paid $500,000, that news item will go in one ear and out the other like the Bush story did.

Re: Reggie Bush Scandal

By the way, College Gameday said today that is Bush is guilty, it will be the first time ever that a player should have been ineligible during a Heisman Trophy winning season. The exact statement was something along the lines of the fact that Heisman winners had gotten in trouble before they won the award and after they did, but never before has there been an instance of a guy getting caught breaking the rules during a Heisman award season. Lee Corso's calling for Bush to forfeit the trophy. Should he?
