Kocsor, Primm, Rolle Qualify For NCAA Championships

Threesome finish in top five at NCAA West Region in Oregon for auto bids to NCAAs

Boldizsar Kocsor

May 30, 2009

Boldizsar Kocsor, Cory Primm and Karlton Rolle added their names to list of Bruins who will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in two weeks as they finished in the top five of their respective events to automatically advance to Nationals. The men's team finished seventh (46.25 points), while USC won the team title.

Primm finished third in the 800m as he ran 1:49.98. Rolle nabbed the fifth and final spot for Nationals in the 200m by .01 seconds as he ran 21.34 to advance. Kocsor placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 213-5.
In a sudden death jump-off for the fifth and final auto spot to Nationals, sophomore Johnny Quinn missed the bar at 17-3 and finished sixth overall. However, Quinn ranks amongst the top-10 in the NCAA this season and should receive an at-large bid.

Sophomore Greg Woepse also cleared 17-3, but finished eighth overall based on misses. He ranks amongst the top-15 in the NCAA and should receive an at-large bid to NCAAs. Senior Bobby Talley finished 16th (16-7.25) and sophomore Casey DiCesare was 20th (16-7.25).
Senior Dustin DeLeo no-heighted in the pole vault, ending his career at UCLA. DeLeo leaves UCLA as the No. 5 vaulter in UCLA history with a top mark of 18-1.

Junior Stan Griffin finished seventh in the 200m, running 21.57.
After earning a spot to Nationals in the shot put on Friday, sophomore Bo Taylor came up short in the discus as he finished eighth with a season-best throw of 185-8. His mark was nine feet further then his season-best (176-) and just one inch shy of his lifetime-best mark. Taylor is eligible for an at-large berth, but does not rank high enough on the descending order list to receive one.

In the 1500m final, senior Leaf Barnes ran a season-best 3:46.03 to finish eighth overall, while junior Marlon Patterson finished ninth (3:48.9) Today's race marks the end of a fine Bruin career for Barnes. He leaves UCLA as the No. 4 mile runner on the all-time list (3:59.96) and No. 5 1500m runner (3:41.76).

Senior Elijah Wells capped off his Bruin career with an eighth-place finish in the 400m as he ran 48.21.
Sophomore Dylan Knight was 20th in the steeplechase (9:17.24), while junior teammate Marco Anzures finished 26th (9:31.34).
The Bruins automatically qualified six athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships - Nelson Rosario (long jump), Bo Taylor (shot put), Cory Primm (800m), Karlton Rolle (200m), Jonathan Clark (triple jump) and Boldizsar Kocsor (hammer).
