The Toronto Maple Leafs' signing of coveted Swedish goalkeeper Jonas Gustavsson Tuesday is an indication that there are still difference-making players available a week into the free-agent signing period.
Undrafted Gustavsson, nicknamed "The Monster" at 6-3, was considered the best goalie outside the NHL.
Officially, Gustavsson is the backup for Vesa Toskala, but his 1.96 goals-against average and .932 save percentage for Farjestad in the Swedish Elite League suggests he could eventually challenge for the No. 1 job.
