Toronto meets the Red Wings

and we are scared.
It's a 3 pm game because it's Hockey Day In canada - we don't get the coveted 7 pm tv slot on CBC as per normal (that goes to Ottawa vs. Montreal today).
it's been 4 years since the wings have been here. they've met just once since the 2003-04 season, with the Red Wings winning 5-1 at home on Dec. 9, 2006. Detroit has not played in Toronto since a 5-2 loss on Dec. 6, 2003.

in leaf news, Ondrus and Wozniewski have been sent down to the marlies - Wozniewski was the defenseman who spent way too much time in the box on stupid penalites anyway.

Wings are fresh off a loss, though. Maybe Toronto can take 'em, blue!

Re: Toronto meets the Red Wings

yeah, could happen - we'll get them while they are down.
still - Hasek vs. Toskala - or Osgood vs. toskala.
I'm nervous.
I hope, at least, the Leafs show up.

Re: Toronto meets the Red Wings

end of the third it's 2-2 and we go to OT.
Toronto is looking like a team.
I'm excited and I'm cheering but if it goes to a shootout, i'm scared again.

WE WON!!

You have to be-leaf as they say. Less than 2 minutes in.
A very cool tip by Antropov, Sundin ends a scoreless streak, Tucker scores again, and Toskala looks great.
Nice.

Re: Toronto meets the Red Wings

I need a little of this after a lot of the losing kind.
This was a good game, plus I got to watch detroit play - which i rarely get a chance to do.

Nice.
Way to represent. Nice win for the Maple Leafs. See, sometimes the underdog can pull one off, right?

Re: Toronto meets the Red Wings

As a Wings fan, I'll say that I was throughly impressed with the Leafs, espcially Toskala who probably played one of the best games of his career.

The question in now, are the Leafs for real now or have they just gotten lucky?

Well, blue would know better than me... but honestly, I'd lean more towards the luck side of things.

Re: Toronto meets the Red Wings

Totally lucky.
I will admit, Toskala was good -and he has been good alot this season.
Sundin came through again. Tucker has found some life in him. We have Mccabe back. i mean, maybe it's a sign of something - beating Ottawa and the habs and the red Wings in less than 2 weeks is amazing. but I'm going to watch the next few games to be sure about it - they've fooled me before (one word: Florida).
and nice to meet you, Dude. I don't think we've ever talked.

We can't forget though, that over the last few years, Toronto has tended to make pretty strong pushes near the end of the season to get to the playoffs. Maybe if they make some big trades come the deadline, they can get that magical eighth slot.

Nice to meet you too BTW, we probably haven't talked too much, I tend to lurk around the NASCAR Forum more than anything else, but sometimes I can't resist a bit of hockey talk.

Re: Toronto meets the Red Wings

Embrace the hockey talk, Dude, and hockey will embrace you back.
Yeah the leafs do work well under pressure, when the deadline looms. And the islanders are tanking, so we can move past them - then it's the panthers, the thrashers, the Hurricanes. It's not over yet.
I'm wondering at why it was so damn important to fire Ferguson and bring in Fletcher when Fletcher has done nothing - as far as fans can tell.
