Next Leafs Head Coach?

The April 22 edition of the Toronto Star reported that "Paul Maurice, the Marlies head coach, is considered the heir apparent to Quinn." I know next to nothing about Maurice. Is he a good coach? The best, most qualified candidate? Just curious who the Maple Leafs fans on the board would like to see on the bench for 2006-07.

Re: Next Leafs Head Coach?

He was the 'Canes coach for years, youngest i think in the NHL. Whether he showed how good he was then I'm not sure - I mean carolina sure has risen above the rest of those started around the same time - but he is doing a great job with the Marlies. he's smart. He's cool. He's from what is it Sudbury or the Sioux? It would be a big change for the leafs - which is something they need. Plus he'll be working with a bunch of really good young players. feels like a fresh start.

Re: Next Leafs Head Coach?

Paul Maurice is the former head coach of the Carolina Hurricane - the same team that eliminated the Leafs for the Eastern Conference title, then lost to...the Avalanche I believe, (correct me if I'm wrong blueandwhite) in the cup final just a few years back.

I think he's the best, and most obvious choice.

Re: Next Leafs Head Coach?

I like that he's young. He seems to be a coach that has a definitive style, someone that will bring a fresh perspective and new ideas. I think the Leaf's biggest problem over the past few years has been consistency. Hopefully he can address that.
