Leafs beat Panthers, mats scores 4

Mats scored 4 goals and amassed 6 points. Kaberle scored the winning goal in OVERTIME.
Nieuwendyk got a hattrick himself (apparently he's a great lacrosse player). But we beat em.
Listened to the game on the radio and the third period is tense, as Toronto finally pulls ahead to 5-4 and then Bowmeester evens it up in dying minutes. We took some stupid penalties at some really bad moments (Antropov, Steen, Ponikarovsky) and I'm lying in bed listening with the blanket up past my nose, my fists balled into my forehead, thinking WIN!!!.
Then we scored. Wow. Thankful it didn't go to shootout because i think we would have lost and to lose a game where Sundin is Super Hero Mats would have tasted real bad the next morning.
Oh and Tampa Bay lost (um, to Atlanta - but still, we needed them to lose).
Woo-hoo.
Side note: Roberts misses being recognized - In Fla, the guards at the gate still ask him for his identification - he was King Roberts in Toronto (which is a step below Super hero).
We are still alive.

I'm still a little stunned. It's a shame that the game was only available on Leafs TV. I guess their 32 subscribers got a real treat.

Sundin's been on fire lately! Has that gold metal been a good luck charm for him?

Now if only Tampa Bay and Atlanta lose the rest of their games and Toronto wins the rest of theirs...

Keep clinging to that hope, b&w - maybe the Leafs will actually pull it off. Then we can all start talking about how they'll pull off the first round upset. Hey, stranger things have happened!

I've thought exactly that - then had to tell myself to think only about the first step, not get ahead of myself.

Cool Re: Leafs beat Panthers, mats scores 4

Not bad for Mats Sundin...I do believe though that the team record is 10 points by Daryl Sittler...

Sittler scored six goals and four assists for the Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Boston Bruins in an NHL match at Toronto on February 7, 1976.

But it was a different era all together...

How about Ian Turnball scoring 5 goals in a game as a Defenseman back in 1977?...that should be up there as well...

Re: Leafs beat Panthers, mats scores 4

Is Sittler's record not also an NHL record for most points by one player in a game?
