| Re: Isles- Leafs '78 Trottier Potvin and Bossy - do you miss those days? Top 10 scorers that year, they're all on it, and number 10? Lanny, who did score winning goal, game 7. Those are the years I remember as "classic". For fun i looked up the year for stats and Toronto had 1258 penalties in minutes - isles had 938 - Philly had 1668. Also classic. Could you hate Sittler and MacDonald, even Williams? I can't imagine, for the same reason i couldn't hate Potvin and Trottier (maybe Smith). As a sidenote, you must have hated Ron Duguay. |

| Oh yeah. I couldn't stand Ron Dugay with those flying locks. No I didn't dislike McDonald and Sittler. However, I wasn't a big fan of Tiger Williams. He was the Leafs' goon. Isles' was Garry Howatt. Gary Howatt was a tiny guy but his sole job was to go out on the ice and start fights. I think every team had one of those guys in the '70's and 80's. Rangers was Nick Fotiu. The interesting thing about Chico Resch and Billy Smith was that in 1980, Resch was the #1 goalie going into the playoffs. In the opening round, Chico lost the opening game to the LA Kings. So Al Arbour put in Billy Smith. He won that game and never came out again. Chico was then sent to the Colorado Rockies (now New Jersey Devils) and Smith became the Hall of Fame Goaltender that everyone knows. There were certainly more talented goalies but in crunch time, he came up huge. And if you came anywhere near his crease you usually got a good whack with the stick. |
