Leafs vs. islanders

Drum roll starts.
Who will show up? the leafs that won decisively vs. the Devils? or the Leafs that lost so badly to the Rangers? Adrenaline is high but it's high on the island too and guess what? we are at the Island. Too bad it's not in Toronto, the crowd was great for the game vs. Philly.
We lose, we're out. Islanders have one more game to play in their season than the Leafs.
Colaiacovo is "probable". Not "day-to-day". Not "possible". he is "probable".
They have 6 players gone, most infamous being Chris Simon, most sorely missed being DiPietro - although they have a new rising star in Du-bie.
Whjat are we looking for besides a win?
Sundin to score. Raycroft to pass the 37 wins and hold the Leafs all-time record for goalie wins.
Stay out of the box. that is the mantra. don't let the islanders get to you. Stay out of the box.
Score.

Cool Re: Leafs vs. islanders

This is it for us, Blue. Should be a great game. Now lose tonight, and then beat the Canadiens in the finale! And I'm sure your team will show some class and not spit on the ice girls (then again, is Tucker playing?

Tucker's not the guy he used to be. There will be class.
And blue orange and white guts spread all over the ice.

Cool Re: Leafs vs. islanders

Blue, was it me, or were the Leafs sort of listless for a team that is fighting for its playoff lives? The last 8 minutes or so, they didn't play with any kind of desperation. Am I wrong?

Okay. Now if the Isles win Saturday afternoon, I'm the biggest Leafs fan on the planet!

And then you become the biggest Devils fan on the planet, Sunday. But it'll be just like the Islanders to lose against the Flyers.

Re: Leafs vs. islanders

Yeah it's complicated, eh? i was wrong - we're still in it even though we lost because the Habs lost too - but we HAVE to beat the Habs on Saturday and we HAVE to beat them in regulation time.
We've had an amazing on the road record this year and the last 7 games on the road, we have lost. nice time to start losing.
I so wanted to win last night. I agree - they weren't playing very well at all, and those last eight, heck I'd say even more than that, they weren't connecting, not getting chances, islanders were all over them. I'm not sure i agree with maurice pulling Raycroft with 2 and a half minutes to go which made it 5-2 after an open net.
5-2. Yuck.

Cool Re: Leafs vs. islanders

I think Maurice did the right thing. Down 2 goals, he had to take a chance.

Re: Leafs vs. islanders

Most exciting thing about him, besides his pinstripe suit - he takes chance. Quinn would have never done that - heck Quinn wouldn't pull the goalie if we were just down one goal, until say we had maybe 50 seconds left.
So yeah it was a chance and I didn't think we were going to win anyway but at the same time, we lost the puck and sealed the loss with too much time left.
so then you think - hey maybe we COULD HAVE done it.
