big defeat signals end for Leafs

Ugly loss. again (sense of deja vu here).
What a night, though - how do they plan this? Islanders playing Atlanta, Leafs playing the canadiens, Vancouver was playing Edmonton - it's like they had a crystal ball back during the planning stages of the schedule. Tight races all.
Sundin is the only one who scores in a 6-2 defeat. feels like the end (although i read about it today and sundin says it's not over and that tiny hopeful feeling somewhere inside of me sparks up again, I feel the excitement...).
i was so mad last night. at the team for losing and not playing like I KNOW they can play. at head office for sitting on their hands when people need to be FIRED - have the guts to do what Boston and LA have done. mad at Tellqvist, because some of those goals were easy to stop - Huet and tellqvist are apparently on the same career path, but Huet stops the easy ones.
mad. Islanders fans got some from their team last night - where was ours? floundering. Going down for the third time.

So mad that maybe you will start cheering for that up and coming team with character known as the Blue Jackets?...we got plenty of room in our Forum you know...and whenever we lose you can say, "Hey we are young and we are learning"...oh, and brig Sundin with you when you decide to come on over...we can use him...even if tends to saythe obvious from time to time...

Tell you what, if both teams fail to reach the playoff...we can schedule our own playoffs...play it out on that site Wedge found (whatifsports.com...sorry Ross just making a reference, not trying to plug the site )...then we can post about these imaginary games...no one will know the difference...the board is not following hockey that close...

Why does Toronto always hang on and hang on...Why cant they just admit that some people have to be traded. Memories of wins in the past do not make wins in the future. Memories of great players in the past do not make great players in the future. If Toronto with all its legacy and history could take after the 'Canes philosophy...HOLY COW they would need two stadiums.

Yeah, that's one of the big problems. I mean, loyalty is good - but the lack of any moves at crucial times - especially when the team is sinking - is maddening, and goes unanswered. Much like Quinn's tendency to do nothing when the team needs a shake-up .
By canes philosphy, do you mean they dump when necessary, no emotions or loyalites involved (gee is that how we ended up with O'neill?)?
A couple of letters to the editor in the paper today say much the same thing:
do something or be abandoned by long suffering fans who deserve more.

Some where between the "cold blooded, disloyal Canes"...and the "old folks retirement home" that is Toronto, lies the answer...(me thinks )

Re: big defeat signals end for Leafs

I like loyalty. i believe some players deserve it - but then others have to go. I think Sundin deserves a ton of loyalty. I'd send Domi packing without a thought - he has probably been the most loyal leaf yet (although apparently he cottages with high management people which turns into conflict of interest on their part).
So I may be hypocritical in my thinking. I suppose, I would prefer someone like domi retire and save us the need to seem hypocritical.

But then, if sundin started to majorly suck, would i still be loyal? maybe it's not about loyalty and hypocrisy at all - maybe it's all about sucking or not sucking.

Hockey is above all a business...and business is not suppose to be personal...its just business...yet there is a degree of principal and honor in running a business with ethics and proper standards...and a way of getting rid of players without damage to thier image or careers...If someone is old and sucking and still under contract, they can be moved to the front office perhaps (etc)...The last thing any team wants is a reputation for not being honorable or loyal to their players or fans...

Re: big defeat signals end for Leafs

Youre right, Hockey is a business. I guess the question is...Is winning everything? Plain and simple whether players suck or not suck doesn't really matter...its if the team wins or not. How do you just throw away a 10-15 year veteran without a second thought? When do you decide that that player isn't helping your team anymore. Maybe we dont see something intangible that is making Toronto keep these players around. However, as respectable an organization the Maple Leafs are, to not make the playoffs is to say the least..unrespectable. (if that is a word)
