Cool Islanders visit Toronto

Let's get it on Blue!
Quote:
TORONTO - The Islanders ended one long run of futility when they won on Canadian ice for the first time in four years 10 days ago in Montreal. Can they also stop their winless streak in Toronto at 11 games when they face the Maple Leafs tonight at Air Canada Centre?

Put it this way: If they don't, their uphill struggle to reach the playoffs will get immeasurably harder.

The Islanders are 0-10-1 at ACC since their last victory March 28, 2002. On the other hand, the 10th-place Islanders have generated some momentum with their 5-1-4 run in the past 10 games, and they know the importance of beating a team one point ahead in the standings if they're going to get one of eight Eastern Conference playoff spots.

Goaltender Rick DiPietro will face a Maple Leafs team that is 5-1-1 since the All-Star break. "It seems like every time we play them, we allow them to take over in the first period and get the upper hand on us," DiPietro said. "I think the big thing for us is we've got to come out strong and smart in the first period. That's the key to our game in general."
As usual, surging Isles expect to have tough time in Toronto - Newsday.com

With the score tied 2-2 going into the 3rd period, Toronto outshot the Islanders, 16-1, and DiPietro stopped them all. Then the Islanders won 2-1 in a shootout.

In that 3rd period, it looked the Leafs were on a constant power play. The Islanders must have iced the puck 10 times. Don't ask me why they looked like they had cement in their skates - their last game was Saturday night - more than enough time to rest

Sorry, bad colds, ear infections and doctors appointments.
Plus, i just didn't want to talk about it. We needed to win it. We play edmonton, philly, your ny team and boston over the next few games and they are all battling to get into the playoffs and we had to beat them. Did we? No.
Dipietro was great and honestly, Raycroft looked good, too. Antropov and Pony's attempts at scoring in the SO were lacking in style flair and success.
It always sucks when your team rules - especially in the 3rd, OT too - and then they lose. Deflate bubble, pout and go to bed.
NY goes up and we go down - I think we slipped to 11th after last night.

It's still really close, though. Anything can happen. Tonight, the Isles play the Bruins. THis is a game that they should walk away with 2 pts.
