Norris for McCabe?

Mr. McCabe's already on pace to break the franchise record for most goals scored by a defensemen and to tie most points totalled by a defenseman.
Toronto's never won the Norris. How could they have overlooked Salming?

Re: Norris for McCabe?

McCabe's certainly in contention for the Norris, although it's not just scoring that's a factor. Lidstrom, Redden, Malik, Chara. Who know's though, McCabe's definitely having a career year.

Hi, peterborough, and welcome to GoTeamsGo.com!

Of all those candidates you listed, who would you put as the current favorite for the Norris at this point in the year?

Re: Norris for McCabe?

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for asking. I guess I just listed my top 5 in the previous post. I don't think I could pin it down more than that at this point in the season. If I had to though... Lidstrom? But maybe that flashy gold medal is clouding my judgement. What do you and Blueandwhite think?

Re: Norris for McCabe?

I'd probably second the vote for Lidstrom, although he and McCabe are really neck and neck. And let's not forget Lubomir Visnovsky, who leads all defensemen with 56 points. Talk about a guy who's having a career year -- he has more goals so far this season than he did during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons combined!

Cool Re: Norris for McCabe?

Welcome Peterborough - glad to have you even though your a Leaf fan(lol). I'm a huge Islander fan. That series from a few years ago was the nastiest I've ever seen. I was at the Bate's Penalty shot game. Even though I've lived through the Islanders Stanley Cup Years, that Bates game might have been the most exciting game I've ever seen. The Coliseum is such a small building. The thing shook and when I left, my ears were buzzing as if I'd just come out of a rock concert. There was that much electricity in the place.

I must say I'm jealous that McCabe is a Leaf. He was an Islander but Mad Mike Milbury gave him and Todd Bertuzzi away for Trevor Linden. You also mentinon Zdeno Chara as a Norris Trophy candidate. More pain for me as Mad Mike traded him away for that 10 million dollar a year 20 goal scorer, Alexi Yashin, who's given new definition to the term "soft."

Re: Norris for McCabe?

Officially, I cannot vote for a Senator, so Redden and chara are out. Lidstrom's old but the favourite, and yes, maybe he's shiny gold too.
I think McCabe is truly one of the frontrunners.

Blue: More pain for me. Wade Redden is another Islander traded by Mad Mike to Ottawa for Bryan Berrard who subsequently Milbury sent packing to your Leafs for a washed up Felix "The Cat" Potvin. How hard did you laugh when that deal was consumated?

No tears for Potvin. Berard was a spitfire, until the stick in the eye incident, which was terrifying.
I never realize the many connections to the Islanders.

Pretty much every star in the league was an Islander who was traded by Mad Mike.
