After a great start, the past few days have been rough ones for the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen.
But according to Toronto Star columnist Richard Griffin, things aren't quite as bad as they seem: "The Jays' bullpen bubble might have burst, but the sky is not falling. Yes, the relievers had put together an amazing streak of 22 shutout innings heading to the 10th Saturday night. Yes, Brian Tallet and Jason Frasor combined to allow the winning run two nights ago and B.J. Ryan failed to protect his first lead of the season yesterday. But those things happen to every team. The truth is that the efficiency of the Jays' pitching in May covered a multitude of offensive shortcomings that need to be corrected. The ballclub can no longer just be happy about scoring enough runs to take a late-inning lead, then hand it over to the relievers, as has been the modus operandi. That was the May way. In short, you can't blame Tallet for Saturday's loss, or Ryan for yesterday. The fault, dear friends, still lies in the bat rack." What do you think?
