Eckstein, McDonald injured

The Toronto Blue Jays have lost two shortstops, David Eckstein and John McDonald, to injuries.

According to the Associated Press, "Eckstein left the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a strained hip flexor. One inning later, McDonald suffered what appeared to be a more serious injury when he turned his right ankle while attempting to field a grounder in the hole." Both are likely headed to the DL, in which case AAA SS Jorge Velandia would start for the Jays.

Re: Eckstein, McDonald injured

That's about as bad of a break as a team can get, losing two players at the same position. Will Velandia be able to fill the gap?

Re: Eckstein, McDonald injured

I love baseball but this is the thing i hate about it. Boston is already running away with the division and Toronto has taken these critical injuries at the most important position and will probably never recover. It's the only sport where you can predict who will be in the playoffs 100 games before it happens. I know I'm generalizing but where's the race anymore.
