Cool Blue Jays last Canadian team

Quote:
The Ottawa Lynx played their final game Monday, joining in the funereal footsteps of ballclubs that once played in Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Edmonton.
The Triple-A affiliate for the Philadelphia Phillies finished up with an 8-5 loss to the Syracuse Chiefs at nearly filled Lynx Stadium. Next year the team will move to a new home in Allentown, Pa., leaving the Toronto Blue Jays as the sole Canadian baseball team above Single-A ball.

The crowded stands were a rare occurrence for a ballclub that shattered a league attendance record in its inaugural season 14 years ago and now plays before rows of empty stands.

There was no ceremony on the field to draw attention to the somber event. Because it hasn't been officially announced yet, Ottawa baseball fans were left to mourn on their own.

A retired schoolteacher was wearing an old Expos cap as he sat alone, taking in the game from a second-level seat near first base.

"Today I'm somewhat nostalgic," said Donald Cyr, from Gatineau, Quebec. "I used to go to Montreal two or three times a year to watch the Expos. Then I had to satisfy myself with the Lynx -- and now they're gone."

This is sort of sad, isn't it?

Unhappy Re: Blue Jays last Canadian team

What a shame! Really, it doesn't make sense. And to the average Amercian, they won't care...they'll say "why should there even be the Blue Jays." There are soooo many Minor league teams is there No room for a few Canadian teams? I was upset when the Expos left, eventhough a Jay's fan. Oh man, they're doing so great in DC...psh. I just hope we don't see the Toronto shipped off soon...or anytime. I would just die. Just imagine; the Portland Blue Jays...ohhh man
