ESPN.com reports OF Reed Johnson has been placed on the 15-day DL and will undergo surgery to repair a herniated disc in his lower back.

They hope to get him back sometime in July.

This is something that has bothered me a long time. If he is put on the 15 day DL, why are they saying he will be back sometime in July. Wouldn't it make sense to use the 30 or 60 day DL.

I assume they won't put him on the 60-day DL in case he can return earlier than expected.
