Blue Jays Offer Wells $120M+

The Toronto Blue Jays want to keep stud CF Vernon Wells and are making him an offer he may not be able to refuse. He would be a free agent at the end of the upcoming season and the Blue Jays know they need to keep him and offer him the bucks. Wells may not be able to get a deal like the one he's being offered now because there will be some nice CFs available along with him. According to Yahoo!, the offer may be worth over $120 Million for seven or eight years.

For a second there, I thought you meant David Wells.

I'm not even going to discuss the numbers, but they should lock him up for the future.

Soooo not worth it...$120 should get you a pitcher at $70 and a pretty darn good OF at about $50...hate to see that much on the often inconsitent Wells...

Re: Blue Jays Offer Wells $120M+

The talk is Vernon Wells wants to play for the Rangers so it may not matter how much cash the Blue Jays throw at him. He certainly won't get anything close to this deal on the free-market but if he wants to play in his hometown with a close friend (Michael Young)...then go for it.

The Mets, or Dodgers, should offer him a contract.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Yankees already did.

They can't. He's not a free agent. The Blue Jays are trying to get an extension with him before he hits free agency next off-season.

It was a joke.

I'm aware of the MLB Baseball procedures.

Cool Re: Blue Jays Offer Wells $120M+

Wow! Just a couple of years ago, only the yankees could make these kind of offers. Now everybody is spending money

Do you think that the Yankees will beat or match this offer, if not accepted?

Re: Blue Jays Offer Wells $120M+

From all accounts, it sounds like they may reach a deal soon.

Would the Yankees offer Wells a similar deal in the off-season? Perhaps, but I doubt it gets that high.

Re: Blue Jays Offer Wells $120M+

It's now official. The Blue Jays and Vernon Wells have agreed to an extension of 7-years and $126 million.

Wells will have the option of becoming a free-agent (terminating the contract) after the 2011 season. He does have a complete no-trade clause.

I've got to give major props to the Blue Jays for being able to keep their best young player. Kudos...

Re: Blue Jays Offer Wells $120M+

Do you think that Vernon Wells could be compared to Miguel Cabrera? He definitely is a immense contributor to his organization, as is Cabrera in relation to the Florida Marlins.

Re: Blue Jays Offer Wells $120M+

I'm shock that the Jays spend this kind of cash to any player and to be totally honest I wasn't much of a big fan of Wells until last year were is has change my mind , I believe his best years are coming , Its going to be interesting if they can get another solid pitcher now , Which they say they are going after , Look like now my cable bill will increase much higher

They probably won't jack up the price until after they turn into a championship team.
