Yes.

Quote:
Frank Thomas now in tow, Toronto Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi is turning his focus to shoring up his team's pitching and addressing the need for a catcher and a middle infielder.

"I think pitching at this point is our No. 1 priority," Ricciardi said during a conference call Friday, after finalizing an US$18-million, two-year deal plus a vesting option based on plate appearances with Thomas.

"It's going to be an interesting market."

And an expensive one at that.
That's just crazy.

Are you saying Frank not going to do well or they over did it with their budget ?

Both... Thomas will flop, and the Jays will realize what a waste of cash the deal was.

I may be alone here, but I like the signing. Yes, they overpaid. But Thomas will add another bat into the lineup, and he solidifies the DH position. If they add some pitching, they may be contenders. At the very least, this is a much smarter signing that Burnett last offseason.

The problem is the Jays have to overpay for anyone to come to Toronto (i.e Burnett, Ryan) 9 mil a year for the Big Hurt is a Big Hurt to the wallet. If Ricardi says they need to focus on pitching why throw money at a DH? Well we'll only know this upcoming season whether the Jays are right in this one

The Jays will probably lose Wells this offseason, so Hurt will be his "replacement". Not very comforting for Jay fans...

Toronto needs to spend the money they have on pitching...

Re: Are the Jays high or what ?

Yeah they spend big but it bring me back to the days of Dave Winfield when the jays pick him up , At that time I thought just like I am now with Franky boy , Do I need to tell you what happen that year with Dave ? The way I see it now ? If they resign Ted Lilly and get an average or just above average stater or even a solid pitcher , a catcher and infielder ? They should win the Eastern division , just as long as they stay pretty healthy

Re: Are the Jays high or what ?

Frank Thomas obviously has the potential, as he showed last season.

However, two years for someone his age and his health is a very risky deal.

I personally see it as a do or die for the franchise , If they get the fans back into baseball ? great , If not ? Its bye bye club

Now see, I wasn't aware they were looking at losing Wells. In that case, the $9 million would have been MUCH better served trying to keep him around. I had him on my fantasy squad last season and he was always producing; very consistant player. They should be doing everything they can to keep him in Toronto.
