I don't see the blue jays lasting long

Hi ... The way the market is going in the east ? I can't see how the blue jays will be around in the next few years ( 3 to 5 years ) Yeah I know Ted has lots of cash , Even if they were to gather a solid team ? The fans aren't there any longer , Plus the price to see a game is another thing , I see 5 years from now ? There wouldn't be a jays team

welcome Snooker...

Perhaps the Jays will just fly south for the Summer and become the Jacksonville/Orlando Blue Jays...

Thanks for the welcome , Your suggestion could happen , I'm sure many from the GTA area will disagree with me but the way I see ? The US market is killing us here , Also the fans weren't there this year too , Add the 2 after a few years ? I can see them heading out

I don't know the BlueJays finances or anything like that but it seems like the owner is prepared to spend some money to try to win. He okayed the signings of BJ Ryan, AJ Burnett and Troy Glaus last season to name a few. It's just a matter of finding the right mix of guys. The big thing will be if Vernon Wells stays in town or if he is traded.

That true the owner has spend money and is planning to spend more but if the fans aren't there ? At what point do you decide to either move or sell , I believe the average crowd the Jays got were around the 30,000 range , With those numbers and the US market to run a good team in the East ? Sooner or later something has to go , Even this year with all the moves the Jays did ? There wasn't much talk or buzz about the Jays , Toronto will always be about Hockey and now it look like the Raptors are starting to move on the charts as number 2 sporting event

Re: I don't see the blue jays lasting long

From the NYTimes in an article from about two weeks ago..."Ricciardi has not talked with Wells or his agent yet. Ownership has agreed to bump the team payroll past $80 million next season, but Ricciardi will not know for two weeks how much more."

With that said, I don't think Ownership is too worried about attendance. If they can field a good, competitive team, people should show up.

And about Wells, the Blue Jays GM says if he wants a Carlos Beltran type of contract, then he's not going to be Blue Jay after next season. So they have one more year for certain out of the guy.

I don't think it will happen even with a good team , Just look at the team they have now? At the begin of the season they kept trying to say that the attendance would improve but it never did , The Jays didn't really have that bad of a year , 10 games above 500 isn't bad , Though not enough to get into the playoffs but still it wasn't a terrible year , What kill the Jays for attendance was the strike and the US market , Team owners like the Yankee's, How can you compete when you have a onwer that has no limit and you got to remember the Canadian exchanges plus the taxes , its what kill Montreal , They couldn't compete with the US market which lead to poor attendance

BTW I hope that I am wrong but only time will tell

The average attedance for each MLB team's average home game in 2006 was about 31,419 people. The Blue Jays averaged 28,422 people for their home games, for 18th best in the game. I wouldn't be too worried for them.

Re: I don't see the blue jays lasting long

Canada's national sport is Hockey with an ounce of football (CFL).

The United States' national sport is baseball (now becoming football) mixed in with some basketball and an ounce of hockey.

As you can distinguish, Canada and the US overall do follow the same kinds of sports as closely.

Re: I don't see the blue jays lasting long

I'm surprise with the Jays lately, I didn't think they had that kind of cash to spend for the team , I might be wrong now as to how long they last . Hmmmmm

Re: I don't see the blue jays lasting long

Do you feel that cash makes a championship baseball organization?

Also, is baseball all about the money?

When it comes to the Blue Jays only ? Yes I do , because many MLB players don't want to play in Toronto , So by they doing this ? Might make those players think other wise ...
