Bobby Knight Calls It Quits

No one has any details but it is going across the ESPN News crawl . Texas Tech Coach Bobby Knight has resigned.
A spokesman for Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers says men's basketball coach Bob Knight has resigned, effective immediately.

On the court it means that his son, Pat, will take over as the head coach. Pat Knight was previously designated as the coach-in-waiting for the Red Raiders.

Since there is no information as to the why, expect speculation to run rampant. All that is known, is that he told the Texas Tech AD this morning that he was resigning. Resigning in the middle of the conference schedule, and without warning will do that.

Did they run out of toilets ????

Regardless of all the flamboyant errors he has made, he has had a great statistical career.

He was one of my favorites. The game won't be the same without him.

Strange. Almost makes you wonder if there are healthy problems or something, bowing out unexpectedly like this.

I would think so...something of that kind...and I doubt if Knight is into letting anyone know whatever the heck goes on in his personal life.

I personally like the guy...a bit of an Anger Management issue though.

Re: Bobby Knight Calls It Quits

No it wasnt random. He wanted to quit earlier, he just didnt want people to think that all he wanted was his 500th win and then call it quits

You mean 900th... right? The way it looks he wanted to leave a year ago.

Re: Bobby Knight Calls It Quits

Seahawker's right to some degree. Read an article in the paper last night that said he and Pat have been trying to figure out all year when the best time to make the switch would be. It had less to do with Bobby's win totals, though, than it had to do with the team and getting used to a vastly different coaching style (Pat's a real low-key guy).

Re: Bobby Knight Calls It Quits

Knight was one of the few who treated the media how it often deserved to be treated. Anybody who was a good friend of Ted Williams had to be a great man!
