Knight ties Adolph Rupp

Texas Tech coach Bobby Knight won his 876th game on Wednesday, tying him with former Kentucky coaching great Adolph Rupp and moving him within three of Dean Smith for the most in Division I history. Where does Knight rank among the all-time great NCAA coaches?

I'd put him around five all-time. He's great no doubt but all his controversy hurts him when people will look back at hime. Rupp and Dean are without a doubt the top two.

I think you forgot about a guy named Wooden in UCLA. Also, I think Krysciwski is better also. I would have rather had Jim Valvano coach my team also. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could compile wins.

Knight was a great coach - at one time, but what has he done in the last 20 years as far as getting his team to a final 4? Many of his wins are just a result of his longevity.

Yeah, thanks in part mainly to Dean, UNC has the NCAA record for most Final Fours. Did Rupp do that? Will Knight do that?

Hmm... yeah, I think I'd take at least Rupp, Wooden, the Dean, and Coach K over Knight. Maybe Jim Boeheim and John Thompson, too, and I'm sure there's some others I'm forgetting. Knight's a good coach, but I've never thought of him as a great one.

I would also rather have Rick Pitino than Knight.
