Re: No answer for Contreras The Yankees traded Jose Contreras to the Chicago White Sox in 2004 for a pitcher named, "Esteban Loaiza". The Yankees claimed that Contreras was inconsistent with his pitching, and somehow seemed to pitch worse from the bullpen. He did horrible in the 2003 post-season achieving a ghastly ERA close to 6. The Yankees thought that Loaiza would do a better job. Now thinking about it, did the Yankees make the right decision?

Re: No answer for Contreras I haven't really tracked Esteban Loaiza's starts over the years, but I am aware of his statistics. He had a stunning year in 2003 with the Chicago White Sox, but otherwise Loaiza didn't have any other spectacular season. I guess you can call him a "one hit wonder", Gotham Dark Knight. At least we all know that Jose Contreras will finish with (probably) more wins than he had last year [15]. In nearly four years, he has turned into one of baseball's top aces. Do you think he walk away at the end of the season with the AL Cy Young in his hands though?

Re: No answer for Contreras The Yankees basically stole Contreras away from the Boston Red Sox. Anyone else remember when the Yankees signed Contreras? It is a vague memory but if I remember correctly. The Red Sox thought he was all signed and theirs. I believe Cashman was at the hotel and offered Contreras more money and signed him on the spot. I don't remember it all correctly but there is a story behind it. Manny

Contreras was terrible for the Yankees. At the time he was dealt, it looked like he was never goanna develop so I can't kill Cashman on that deal. Contrereras may be one of those guys who can play anywhere except NY. Kenny Rogers is another one. Javier Vasquez also.

Re: No answer for Contreras I am sorry, Racquetball, but I do not remember the story. All I know is that Jose Contreras was signed by the Yankees in 2003 as a free-agent. That does sound like an interesting story, though. It is highly-possible to say that there may have been a scenario similar to that one you mentioned. ThePundit, there are many baseball stars who never adjusted to the New York community. Vazquez did amazing well, before he wore the pinstripes. Contreras had some solid seasons, but lacked consistency. By the way, welcome to the GoTeamsGo forum, Racquetball. By your recent posts, I can see that you have a large potential here at the Forum. Post away!
