| Re: Kevin Mench home run streak Quote:
Mench homered in his 7th straight game tonight. According to the AP, he homered in the eighth inning against Cleveland's Guillermo Mota. Dale Long, Don Mattingly and Ken Griffey Jr. share the major league record with homers in eight straight games. Will he be able to tie the record, or even break it? |

| Re: Kevin Mench home run streak I don't think so. As most sports stories end, he will probably suffer a minor injury or enter a slump. Kevin Mench doesn't fit into a group of Don Mattingly, Dale Long and Ken Griffey Jr. |

| Re: Kevin Mench home run streak Mench went without a home run tonight, failing to tie the record. By the way, Guillermo Mota is so awful, he could give up a home run to Don mattingly today! Dale long was a big bonus baby in the early Fifties that never panned out, finishing with 132 home runs in 10 seasons. Records and streaks like these are what sets baseball apart from all other sports and makes it the best. There are so many aspects to the sport and such a sense of history tied to baseball. The absolute best "record" that i have ever heard about involved Lou Piniella. He was "thrown out" for the cycle- being forced out at first and then tagged out at the rest of the bases, all in one game! Boy I wish I would have seen that. |

| Re: Kevin Mench home run streak Home plate is considered a base, and the record does include it. As embarrassing as that must have been for Lou at the time, I will bet he is glad he did it so now he can tell that story! |
