Mark Teixeira trade rumors

Should the Texas Rangers trade Mark Teixeira? That's what Tim Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News thinks.

In a recent article, Cowlishaw says, "It's time for Hicks and general manager Jon Daniels to submit to a full-fledged rebuilding program. And that has to start with a trade of Mark Teixeira... It doesn't matter that from June through September, Teixeira would be the Rangers' best offensive weapon. What would his hot late summer bat do? Get them down to 95 losses?... Teixeira will be a free agent after the 2008 season. He has never sounded as if he would commit to the Rangers long term if the team was doing less than winning division titles." So what do you think? Should the Rangers deal Teixeira?

Re: Mark Teixeira trade rumors

I do not understand rebuilding programs that start with the selling off of your star players...you don't send a cornerstone of a franchise packing in the hope of maybe, maybe starting something good.

I guess you trade a guy like Teixeira now in the hopes you land 2-3 guys who may be the next Johann Santana or Derek Jeter. Big gamble, but there have been instances where it's paid off. Plus the kid supposedly wants out of Texas to go to a contender, so they'll lose him at season's end anyway. Why not get something for him while you can?

Re: Mark Teixeira trade rumors

Rangers' GM Jon Daniels is denying reports the team might deal Teixeira.

According to the Yahoo! Sports rumors section, "Daniels said he had not talked to any clubs about Teixeira recently. Daniels, however, also acknowledged that most clubs are tied up with preparations for the upcoming amateur draft... He said he did not have any plans to shop Teixeira, who is eligible for free agency after 2008. There have not been any substantive talks about signing Teixeira to a contract extension."

Soemtimes it is a good idea. You have to give something up in order to get something good in return. Why keep a star player around if it will not help your team win. I remember the Indians traded their ace pitcher at the time, Bartolo Colon. People were outraged around here, but they got Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee, and Brandon Phillips out of it. They got 3 players that ended up starting in the Majors. On eof them being a Superstar.

Exactly. If you can't win with one star player, maybe go and get 2-3 guys who all could develop into stars, hoping to find more success as a team. If trading Teixeira can bring Texas a future ace or a closer in training and a couple of guys who will be everyday starters come 2009, I say do it.

Cool Re: Mark Teixeira trade rumors

Here are the latest ones:
Quote:
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News shares his thoughts on the future of Texas Rangers slugger Mark Teixeira, proposing the following destinations for the free agent-to-be.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have James Loney at first base, but he's a few years away from making the leap, so Teixeira could help in the short-term.

Also in Southern California, the Los Angeles Angels could use a better option at first than struggling Casey Kotchman.

The Atlanta Braves could use a solid young bat to replace the aging Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones, who will soon test free agent waters himself.

Finally, the Seattle Mariners are in the thick of things in the A.L. West and could add Teixeria to make a push for the postseason.
Teixeira could be bound for.... - Rumors - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

I heard Tom Verducci on WFAN and he said that Texas wants 3 top minor league prospects for Texiera so I wonder if he's going to be traded at all. My guess is that he'll get dealt at the last second; it'll be a who'll blink first type of deal.

well forever in rebuild mold is not the answer either...void of stars you lose a lot of your fan base...

Teixeira would be a great pickup for the Braves. They really need some help and some more young bats.

Any team that acquires Teixeira would get more than a rent-a-player for the rest of this season. While Teixeira will be eligible for salary arbitration, he can't become a free agent until after 2008.

Only Ralph Kiner, Albert Pujols and Eddie Mathews hit more than the 140 homers that Teixeira had in his first four major league seasons. He had at least 33 homers and 110 RBIs in each of the past three.
Could Teixeira be in final week as a Ranger? - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

I didn't know that Texiera couldn't become a free agent until 2009. Wow. That changes things a bit, huh?
