Sosa 600 home run countdown

Sammy Sosa hit another home run last night, #595 on his career, in the Rangers 5-3 win over Toronto. According to the Associated Press, "Sosa is within five of becoming the fifth player in major league history to hit 600 or more home runs. He homered twice at Cleveland on Thursday, giving him home runs in a major league-record 44 stadiums." So Sosa's officially on the clock here... how much longer until he hits #600?

Re: Sosa 600 home run countdown

as for when, alot of it will of course depend on how much they pitch to him

when he reaches 600 is he a lock for the HOF ?

1st ballot ?

i would say yes until he fails a drug test or get caught cheating

They'll definitely pitch to him... he's not really a feared bat here. Hall of Fame... hard to say these days. I though McGwire was a lock, but you know what happened there. Anyone who puts up these kinds of numbers should be inducted unless he's caught with a 100% certainty.

Love Sosa...but Mac before Sosa in the Hall...and it doesn't look like it will happen...I think like their big homerun campaigns, these two are linked forever...one won't make the Hall till the other one does.

Re: Sosa 600 home run countdown

Sosa's only downside is the possible use of cork in his bats. Otherwise, to the Hall it is.

The cork? What about the juice? A lot depends on what this guy has testified to. If a lot of players are named in using steroids, the writers may not name any of these steroid era guys.

Which would be a darn shame if there's no proof. Shouldn't keep these guys out of the Hall because of suspicion.

But hey, it happened to Big Mac...still you are dead on Lefty...I think the freakin writers have too much power on this...they turned on Mac who whatever rumors aside was a class act when they all wanted a piece of him to write a story...and now they will turn on Sammy...shame...real shame.

Re: Sosa 600 home run countdown

According to an unauthorized biography I read of Sosa, he had a true desire to play the game of baseball. He needed some cash to support his family back home in Latin America.

I still have hope McGwire gets in... maybe they were just sending a message with the first-ballot thing.

Well that just about covers all the Central and South American players and our friends in Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican...

Re: Sosa 600 home run countdown

David Ortiz uses his money to buy food.

Barry Bonds uses his money to buy steroids.

Whats the difference?
