Phil Nevin

Phil Nevin's told reporters that he want to make up for last season, calling it "my most embarrassing season" while adding that he did not respond well to the deal that brought him to Texas. Nevin played in just 29 games for the Rangers, hitting .182 with 3 HR and 8 RBI in 99 ABs. He's been a good player in the past. Think he can be again once he gets himself settled down?

Re: Phil Nevin

I think so. With Rudy Jaramillo as a batting coach, not many players struggle for more than a season. That guy is a genius. Last season, I saw a couple things that I liked from Nevin (besides wanting his salary). 1) He has a long reach, which if harnessed, can prove valuable in going the opposite direction. 2) He can hit the double. The Rangers need more of that and less whiffs.

Re: Phil Nevin

Through 3/23, Nevin is 9-for-35 with 4 home runs and 10 RBI, so he cooled off considerably from his quick start. He's only hitting .257 in 14 games, but he does have a pair of numbers. I know you can't tell a lot by spring numbers, but it doesn't seem like he's back to his old form just yet. Can he be effective for the Rangers once the real games start?
