New Texas Rangers manager

Who do you think will take over for Buck Showalter as the manager of the Texas Rangers? Hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo has passed on the job. Texas is expected to make a pitch for both Joe Torre (if fired) and Lou Pinella (if Torre isn't fired). Don Wakamatsu, Showalter's bench coach, seems to be the top candidate right now, though. Who do you think winds up with this job?

Re: New Texas Rangers manager

I wonder why Jaramillo passed on the job? He was a favorite for many jobs a couple of years ago but went back to Texas.

Re: New Texas Rangers manager

He said he just wants to stay a hitting coach. I guess he's happy and doesn't want the added stress of being a manager.

Cool Re: New Texas Rangers manager

Some guys are great coaches but can't handele the manager position. Joe Kerrigan was an example. Who will manage? I have no idea. The Yankees have a bunch of coaches to choose from: Larry Bowa, Lee Mazzilli and Tony Pena all would be decent choices.

The latest word is that Joe Torre is staying in the Big Apple. Where have you been?

Re: New Texas Rangers manager

So who is up next on their scounting chart?

Lou Pinella is a good manager. I would grab him but he probably won't lead the team to a championship within his stay!

Cool Re: New Texas Rangers manager

You couldn't pay Lou Piniella enough at this point to take the Texas job.

Texas has great players, but just needs to make them perform at their potential!

Don't forget current Mets 3B coach Manny Acta. His name has been mentioned along with Texas.

Re: New Texas Rangers manager - Manny Acta?

Good call, Empire! Acta interviews for the opening on Friday, according to the above article, which also says that the Mets third base coach "will be the third candidate to interview for the vacancy that came open when the Rangers dismissed Buck Showalter at the end of the season... Oakland third-base coach Ron Washington interviewed on Tuesday. John Russell, who managed the Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A team in Scranton-Wilkes Barre, is scheduled to interview on Thursday."
