Re: Overlooking Texas?

Is Vince Young getting too much credit for the Texas Longhorns national championship victory last season? It seems like no one things they have a legitimate chance of repeating, and according to this article, "If the Big 12 preseason media poll is to be believed, Texas faces some hard work just to repeat as South Division champions. Oklahoma was the choice, with the Longhorns in second." So is Texas just a 2nd-place in the Big 12 South team without Vince Young?

Re: Overlooking Texas?

Texas has won 1 championship in the last 36 years, hard to see it happening again without the man responsible for over 60% of their offense last season, especially since the new QB will be a freshman with no game experience whatsoever. Does anyone seriously think last years Horns would have beat Ohio State AND USC without the late game heroics by Vince Young? Everyone in the country new Young was going to keep on that last play in the Rose Bowl and I doubt anyone could have stopped him from going in. With OU losing Bomar now, the south division is up for grabs with any of several teams having a shot at it. Could Nebraska suddenly be the Big12 title favorites now?

As much as it pains me to say so, I think Texas is the class of the field in the Big 12, especially considering the QB situation in OK. I am not so sure that Nebraska, or anyone in the north division for that matter, is that good yet. We'll have to see a few games first.

Welcome AZAggie...nice of you to give Texas the benefit if the doubt. So are the Longhorn not going to feel the loss of Vince Young much?

They'll feel it, but they have so much talent on the sidelines it is ridiculious. If nothing else, they can give it to one of their 4 running backs and win the majority of their games. All their QB has to do is not make the big mistake. We'll have to see how the new OU QB's fare. The uncertanity is what make college football so much fun!

Re: Overlooking Texas?

Thanks for joining us here at GoTeamsGo, AZAggie. I think with OU's quarterback situation, I have to agree with you, although now that Young and Michael Huff are in the NFL and Romance Taylor's no longer with the team, the Longhorns certainly won't be a BCS title contender this year. If any team is going to give them a run for their money in the north, which one do you think it would most likely be?

I work with a Husker, so all I hear is Nebraksa Nebraska Nebraska. I think they will be good, Iowa State should also be pretty good. Missouri's QB finally retire---I mean graduate??? I don't think they will be bad.
