AUSTIN, Texas -- Former University of Texas basketball standout D.J. Augustin will look to have his name called early during Thursday night's NBA Draft at New York City's Madison Square Garden. Augustin, who earned the Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford as the nation's top collegiate point guard this past season, is tabbed by most mock drafts as a lottery pick (among the Top 14 selections in the first round).
With Augustin likely to be drafted among the Top 14 picks, it will complete quite a three-year run for Texas at the NBA Draft. LaMarcus Aldridge became the highest draft pick in UT history in 2006, when he was selected as the No. 2 pick by the Chicago Bulls. Aldridge's rights were later traded to Portland. Texas also produced a pair of second-round picks in 2006 in P.J. Tucker (35th overall pick by Toronto) and Daniel Gibson (42nd overall pick by Cleveland). Last year, Kevin Durant equaled Aldridge's accomplishment when Durant was tabbed as the No. 2 pick by the Seattle Sonics.
