| Applewhite accepts UT job -- all but official After sleeping in Austin, Texas, last night, Major Applewhite woke up this morning and took the job opening at the University of Texas. This'll be up on the Birmingham News breaking news page in a few seconds. The former Longhorns quarterback apparently didn't spend the night tossing and turning. According to this blog on the Austin American-Statesman web site, it was long accepted that he would take the job of UT runnin backs coach. An official announcement from Texas could come as early as a few hours. Applewhite is likely to make the same money -- $250,000 -- at Texas as he did at Alabama. There will likely be a press conference tomorrow morning, so we can find out exactly why he took the job. One thing about this: From everything I've been told by people I trust, Applewhite was not forced out. Coach Nick Saban wanted him to stay. Major just decided not to. So... UA coach Nick Saban is searching for an offensive coordinator. Which way is he gonna go? Applewhite accepts UT job -- all but official - The Rap Sheet - al.com
