Longhorns football coach expected to get raise?

The University of Texas System Board of Regents will convene today to consider a pay raise that could push head coach Mack Brown over the $3 million salary threshold. Brown, who turned 56 on Monday, currently makes $2.6 million a year on a 10-year contract he signed at the end of the 2004 season. The deal includes an automatic $100,000 raise each year. Athletic director DeLoss Dodds declined comment when asked about the regents' agenda. He did acknowledge that a new deal was in the works. -- Houston Chronicle

Re: Longhorns football coach expected to get raise?

The new contract for Brown was approved. According to the Associated Press, "University of Texas Regents unanimously agreed to extend Brown's contract by two years through the 2016 season, boosting his salary from $2.66 million to $2.91 million, including a special payment of $100,000 to be paid Saturday, the day No. 4 Texas opens the season at home against Arkansas State... Like his original contract, he gets $100,000 annual raises that will push him past $3 million next year... Brown, who turned 56 on Monday, also gets a $1 million bonus if he stays through next season and cashes in again with a $2 million bonus if he's still here Jan. 1, 2010."

Well, is he worth it?

To the high rolling Texas Alumni, he is. They're the ones who "support" Texas Football and anytime their guys are in the running for a National Championship, they're happy and when they're happy their checkbook is open.
