| Texas vs. Arkansas State Big things are expected of the Texas Longhorns this season, especially with a more seasoned Colt McCoy at quarterback. There have been some injury concerns at wide receiver, but that shouldn't matter much in this laugher. The Horns should roll in this one as they warm up for TCU next weekend. What do you think?

| Re: Texas vs. Arkansas State The horns have been known to overlook this week's opponent focusing on the following week. And when they do they usually get the **** scared out of them before they settle down and make a game of it. However, if they get a couple quick scores, the game will be long over before half-time.

But with injuries taking half of his receiving corps (Jordan Shipley and Billy Pittman), and Limas Sweed is nursing a sprained wrist, but says he's ready to play - has even been practicing making one handed catches! So that leaves Nate Jones and a couple freshmen (James Kirkendoll and Brandon Collins) who have been running routes and Colt seems pleased with them. Oh yeah, almost forgot Jermichael Finley, he's healthy and ready to go. Word is the offensive line has been drilled and drilled and knows they have to protect Colt 'cause he's not gonna run like Vince did. And there's a different offensive philosophy that's focused on Colt's arm so look for a lot more passing than running. What that boils down to is Jones & Finley being the workhorse and Sweed doing what he can - so there's a possibility that Jones could put up some big numbers and "steal" a little of the spotlight. But I don't think so. Sweed is chomping a the bit and is determined not to be left out (which may be the motivation for him to do some spectacular numbers.) The offensive line is anchored by Senior guard Tony Hills and the defensive line has two standouts in Seniors Derek Lokey and Frank Okam: all 3 were named to the Rotary Lombardi Award, which goes to the top linemen in college football. Colt is only a sophomore but is smart and the word is he's already taken over the leadership responsibilities for the team. He's got a 3 deep receiving corps and a record setting arm. The only thing he can't seem to do is grow whiskers. So there's a bunch of "stars" and they'll all be shining, some more than others. Any of the ones I named could be the brightest, but I still think the main man is Colt. And that goes for the entire season .. baring injuries. All they need to do this week is play the way they know how and Arkansas State will be on the bus at half-time. |

to quote senior defensive tackle Derek Lokey, who also plays fullback in short-yardage situations, "This was a major wake-up call. It's a good opportunity to look at where we really are." Yep, the horns aren't flying high today .. they're thankful they aren't in the same predicament as Michigan... |
