Texas - WVU Sweet 16 Game

This is from the AP's preview of today's Longhorns-Mountaineers game:

Quote:
Texas beat the Mountaineers 76-75 on Nov. 21 in the Guardians Classic in Kansas City. Now the second-seeded Longhorns are gearing up for a rematch against No. 6 seed West Virginia on Thursday in the Atlanta Regional semifinals.

Pulling out the tapes of the earlier matchup didn't seem to embolden Texas coach Rick Barnes, who was asked Wednesday whether devising a game plan for West Virginia could be compared to a football coach preparing for a wishbone attack.

Barnes said the comparison with the old-school wishbone offense doesn't fit West Virginia.

"I don't know if I would call it a wishbone more than I would call it that Fun-n-Gun because they spread you out," Barnes said. "They're going to shoot 25 3s. They make more 3s than any team in the country. It's almost like playing against a no-huddle offense."
Personally, I like WVU's chances in this game. Their offense is unique enough to give a team fits. That said, UT does already own a win over the Mountaineers this season. Can Texas do it again?

Re: Texas - WVU Sweet 16 Game

I have to say that just as in baseball pitching wins championships and in football defense wins super bowls....down low wins basketball games. Yes this is after the fact but even WVU's sharpshooters arent enough for the size of the big ole Longhorns. Even if WVU got passed Texas which they almost did....the buck would have stopped at the next game because three's arent really basketball its like winning at the roulette table.

Shooting three's isn't basketball? Then how did the Mountaineers win over 40games the last two seasons?

People forget that shooting three's is the system that Beilein implemented. He recruits players that can do it, and that has shown over the past 2 seasons. Even though they lose four starters, the Mountaineers will be able to make noise again next year because of the way they play.
