Post Texas - Texas A&M game

This weekend, the Texas Longhorns look to rebound against the Texas A&M Aggies. Here's a preview.

The Big 12 title is still for the taking, but the Longhorns have work to do, starting with their annual showdown with Texas A&M.

The Longhorns (9-2, 6-1 Big 12) rest this weekend before hosting the reeling Aggies (8-3, 4-3), who dropped out of contention in the Big 12 South with consecutive home losses to Oklahoma and Nebraska.

After 11 straight games, the open date gives Texas a chance to recover and regroup. The Longhorns must still beat the Aggies to win the Big 12 South and get to the conference championship game.

Failing to win the Big 12 a year after winning the national championship would be a huge letdown.

"You can tell the guys have been disappointed. But they understand you've got to move forward and get ready for the Aggies," coach Mack Brown said. "They don't have as much to play for as No. 2 in the country. They do have more to play for than No. 112. They can still be champions."
So what are your predictions about this one? Who wins - the Longhorns or the Aggies?

Post Longhorns and Aggies square off in Lonestar State Showdown

Here's a preview of this weekend's upcoming Texas - Texas A&M Game.

Quote:
Footballworld.com | A Netsports Site
The Aggies have been an impressive offensive team, but the two narrow losses had to have taken a toll on this team. Also working against Texas A&M is the fact this game is taking place in Austin, where Texas rarely loses. With hopes of a second straight national title now over, UT will get the job done here to close out the regular season.
The Sports Network is predicting a 31-20 Longhorns victory. What do you guys think? Are they right?

Re: Texas - Texas A&M game

Aggies get a huge 4th down stop at their own 7 yard line and then go 93 yards for an early 6-0 lead. Aggies got it on the ground and included a couple of 3rd and long conversions. I love rivalry week.

Colt McCoy's not looking like the golden boy so far today.

Should be a great game.

Re: Texas - Texas A&M game

Huge win for the Aggies with huge ramifications on the Big12 title game. Because of the Texas loss, Oklahoma can clinch a berth in the Big12 title game with a win tomorrow over Oklahoma State. Cowboys have a very dangerous high powered offense capable of putting up points in a hurry. The Bedlam of Oklahoma will be very interesting.

Re: Texas - Texas A&M game

Ouch, what happened? McCoy threw 3 picks and the Longhorns defense surrenders 217 yards on the ground. This sure didn't look like the UT team that started this season, I'll tell you that. Back to back losses and just like that, in the past two weeks, they go from a title game contender to a team with no chance whatsoever of making a BCS bowl.

McCoy left the game on a stretcher. Were the two hits he took in the game dirty?

Re: Longhorns' run defense shredded, offense sputters

Lots of great info from this article. This was the Longhorn's first conference home loss since 1999. It was their first loss to A&M in their last seven meetings. Texas had been giving up 43.5 rushing yards per game, and had not given up more than 124 rushing yards in a game all season. And in response to Empire's question, yes, I think those hits were dirty. One was late and the other was helmet-to-chin. Definite cheap shots.

Re: Texas - Texas A&M game

I don't really think that last hit was dirty. I thought he was really going into McCoy's chest & just got a little chin.

HUGE freaking win for Aggies. Will it put a stop to the Fire Coach Fran calls?

Re: Texas - Texas A&M game

Sorry guys. Went back to TX for the holiday. This was a huge win for the Aggies. I still think Fran is a crappy coach. We should only have 1 loss right now, but his pitiful play calling killed us against OU and Nebraska. Still, I am happy about the win. McCoy did not look good. I think he was still hurt. His passes had no zip and were coming up short. I must admit that 1st big hit in the 4th quarter was petty dirty and the guy deserved to be thrown out of the game. The last hit that knocked him out was not.

Re: Texas - Texas A&M game

not that i'm a fan of either team...but this was all in all a good game. coach brown is back to his old ways. play great against good teams...but when it comes down to it...can't win the big one. i know it's hard to replace somebody like vince young but other teams have done it. i look for ut to be a contender next year.

Re: Texas - Texas A&M game

First, Mack brown is a great coach. But the call during the opening drive of the game vs. KSU to run a quarterback sneak which injured McCoy was a season changing call. It all goes to momentum and confidence. He's turned out to be one of the best quarterbacks of the season, and losing him changed the game. As for the A&M game, Texas really needed that usually on fire defensive line to step up. Plus I don't think Colt was at 100%. Of course those two cheap shots didn't help!!

Those hits did not really affect the outcome of the game. Remember, the 1st hit, which was definitely a cheap shot, came after an interception, when Opie McCoy was skipping down the field instead of paying attention to what was going on around him and the last came after he had to scramble out of the pocket. Barring a miracle, the game was sealed up before that last hit, which was a legal hit.
